In bold: When I put a medium format 50mm lens on a 7D will I get the same FOV as from a EF 50mm lens?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say YES even though I have never done it and have no experience with medium format lenses!

Here's why I think so. The number 50mm does not have anything to do with the size of the image circle. It has to do with the focal length.
For example, when comparing on the same sensor ...
an EF-S lens with a smaller image circle at a 50mm focal length is the same field of view (fov) as
an EF lens with a larger image circle at 50mm focal length. Therefore,
a medium format lens with an even larger image circle at 50mm focal length would also give the same fov.

Once again, I have never done it, never used a medium format lens, this is just my intuitive guess.

Here is a lens comparson I posted a while ago.

    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.p...99&postcount=5

The first is a Zeiss Jena 50/3,8 medium format prime and the last picture is a Nikon 50/1,4 35mm format prime.

As you can see, exactly the same.

Difference is, if I would replace my sensor by a bigger one, I would have more FOV - thatīs why in medium format world a 50mm is rated as wide.

Just shot my first wedding using some vintage glass and I have to say I'm loving the "character" of some of the old lenses. Color me amazed. I'll post a trailer soon.

I just found a New FD 50mm f2 lens that was being sold for 20 bucks. Supposedly it's a very very rare lens?

Anyone know how much it is worth?

Don't know about it's rarity but I don't think you'll be able to use it without sacrificing light sensitivity and/or infinity if you plan on adapting it to Canon EOS. Still that's a great price.

Today, I picked up a 28 2.8 Telesar M42 mount lens. Anyone know anything about it? I tried googling it and nothing really shows up. Anyway, with the little testing I've done with the lens it looks pretty good and has intermittent "swirly bokeh". Not as pronounced as a Helios but interesting none the less.

Speaking of Russian glass, anyone shoot with them? I'm seriously looking at lenses from Mir and Volna but would love to see some vids shot with them if they're out there. Thanks in advance!
