    Just getting large sensor data, uncompressed, good bit depth, off the sensor and through the electronics at a good fps is expensive in terms of bandwidth. Any processing done to it adds to that, and the processing power necessary for decent raw compression is non-trivial. That means it doesn't matter who is attempting to do it, it's going to be very expensive from a basic hardware infrastructure cost.
