    Hey Everybody *;D
*Here's my latest production. Before anyone tells me I'm posting in the wrong place understand 1 thing ... This video was shot 98% against greenscreen and was very much an AE production. It's not really the greatest example of the panny anyways because it was all shot in 30p. Thats just the look we wanted for this. *With all that being said... The 1st shoot was exactly 22 days ago. I had a very short deadline because of a video press release party held last night. This was a one man production. All the backgrounds were done in Photoshop or were hand drawn. The hand drawn ones are the better looking ones but I didn't have quite the time to make them all that way so the rest were mostly photos I took of beautiful downtown CLEVELAND.
Having known the singer for a long time and his affection for comics. I came up with the idea of an entire comic book theme ... super powers and all !
P.S. Before anyone says anything about the "lightsaber" ... I let the guys pick their own super powers. *Plus I was running out of time and I knew it would be easy to do. *

Anyways enjoy and if anybody has any question about how I accomplished any of it feel free. * * ;D CAVEMAN

Oh yeah here's the link .... babble babble.

Very nice work! I love the innovation that happens in the music video genre, and this is a great example of it.

Care to share some of your techniques? I particularly am interested in what you did for the "video wall" technique of scanning along a large comp. Everybody has there ways of doing that effect, but your's is particularly impressive and organic.

    ;D WOW ! Thanks everyone !
The "videowall" was pretty cut and dry. I finished each sequence prior to putting the "wall" together and grabbed the 1st and last frame of each sequence. While I was placing each comp in the appropiate place in the timeline I was kind of planning out all of the camera moves in my head. So I had an idea of how to crop each "panel" so that they would fit in to the view of the camera. I didn't use any 3D lighting. All of the yellow text boxes were placed a little closer to the camera in Z space so that the more dramatic camera moves had a little more depth to them. Counting each still (thats 2 for each video panel) and all of the video layers and the separate text boxes and KAPOWS I think there was a total of 239 layers. I added a bunch of stills around the perimeter of all of the video layers so you would never see the edge. I'm not usually very fond of the video wall technique but in this case it just seemed like the perfect thing to do.
Actually one of the hardest things to accomplish , until I figured it out then I set an effect preset, was the black outline around the guys. I duplicated the video layer prior to pulling the key. Then on the 2nd layer pulled a different key with the matte grow set up a few notches, then applied the silhouette alpha mode to that layer. I was really happy with the keylight plug-in. Although I didn't have to worry about it too much with the black outlines It still pulled some damn fine keys.

Thanks again guys for all the comments. I'm my own worse critic.

caveman--thanks for the input, especially on the "black outline" effect. it was a great touch & really added to the comic book feel.

CHRIST! I really need to get my hands on AE and learn to do this stuff. Awesome work, Caveman.

What font did you use for the comic text in the yellow boxes?

    Thanks dpwanab,

Yeah Ae can do some cool shtuff. It's a lot more grueling than basic editing though. I put in about 120 hours on AE alone in 3 weeks. Probably about 40 hours of waiting for ram previews on a MAC G5 Dual 1.8 and I don't even think a dual 2.0 would have helped too much.(though I do have my regrets.) I need more RAM. Just when you thought 2 GB was enough. I'll send you the font when I get on my home computer. I downloaded about 40 "comic style" fonts and this one looked the most like the classic marvel font that I was looking for. I'll let you know. Thanks again. CAVEMAN ;D
