simple method to allow seeing thumbnails of avchd (including gh1's mts files) within windows xp. sorry if this was already posted somewhere on here.
came across this today. worked like a charm so figured i would share this here:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/gener...dows-explorer/
Open Notepad and paste in the following text (in green below):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mts\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.m2t\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.m2ts\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11D1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"
Save the file as
AVCHD Thumbnails.reg
Then double click the file which will run it, then accept the merge.
and remember you must reboot to have registry edits take effect
and when you open a folder with avchd files simply select 'thumbnails' under view
Results 1 to 7 of 7

Thanks for posting that !
But for some reason it didn't work for me. After accepting the merge I get this message

I just modified my original post as it looked before as though the word 'code' was supposed to be included at the beginning. i fixed that, so you may want to see if that is in your file, and if so, just remove it and resave it.

Ok, I resaved it and everything went fine, it got accepted to the registry. But thumbnails are still the same. Don't show images. And I think my registry got screwed up somehow, because Windows started behaving strangely. So I had to restore it back. (that's why it took me so long to reply
I'm going to to stop experimenting for now, let's see if others are successful with it.
Anyways, thanks for sharing. That would be one of the best features that I'd love to have. I tired to play each single file to see what it's about.

If you're not into tinkering with the registry:
I have had great success with downloading this :
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm
Also, you can try Picasa 3.6:
http://picasa.google.com/thanks.html
Both are freeware - you can use both tools, but be sure to install the k-lite codecs first!
