Snow is rare in Arizona, but when it falls there are few places as spectacular as the Grand Canyon.
During this weekend, the clouds cleared for only a few minutes each evening revealing the inner canyon. These short clearings were perfect for timelapse.

Dan,
I'm now in the process of downloading the footage, so it will take a while before I can see it. my DSL connection is slow... I like to copy it to a memory stick and use the WD Media Player to see it on my HDTV.
It will be a while to see your footage, but I know it's going to be worth the wait, because in the past, I've seen that you shoot some very cool footage.

Bob,
Thank you the kind words. You made my day. I hope the video looks good on your big screen.

Thank you for the compliment ATL. Beautiful is easier when pointing the camera at Grand Canyon.
Thanks for watching.

Dan,
It took a bit before I could see it on the big screen; the WD Media Player does not like .MOV files, so I had to convert it to MP4 ... surprise ... I don't have the software to do that in HD... OK, long story made short, once converted it looks really great on the HDTV.
What would be really cool, if there was some sort of reasonable cost, clock drive system for panning during time lapse.

Bob,
Glad to hear all ended well.
I agree, heck, I'd like a drive system for all pans and tilts.
Somewhat off the subject, but this GlideTrack is something I'd like to experiment with as well. http://www.glidetrack.com/

Dan,
Very nice. Of course, watching it sent a shiver down my spine. Love to look at snow, but hate the thought of dealing with it (spoiled by California).
Did you have any problems with the HMC40 in the cold? Obviously not much to freeze up (except perhaps zoom or focus motors) and of course your a$$
. Any problems with lens fogging?

Very nice Dan. I have a spot on my demo reel shot at the Canyon. It is for a clothing company. I get more compliments on it than just about anything. People say "how did you do it?"
When you live in AZ you show up at the Canyon at magic hour, bring beautiful models and turn the camera on. It is really that simple some times.Paul

Rich,
Sorry to chill you, but glad you liked the subject.
I carried the HMC40 for many miles mostly mounted to the folded tripod resting on my shoulder. For heavy snow and rain I had a daypack or stuffsack I'd throw over the camera atop the tripod. I don't believe I was overly protective, but had no problems with the camera. My glasses fogged often, but not the HMC40.
Thanks for watching.
