This is specifically for newbies, but I suppose anyone of us can use this.
RESERVE THE TOP 4 POSTS
It's important especially for marketing to have as much information on your film easily available. The means that on the FIRST PAGE of your thread, you should have all relevant information including:
POSTER, Cast, Crew, Behind-The-Scenes Photos, video blogs, production diary, whatever you have...
Reserve at least the first 4 POSTS in your thread so you can post this information and nobody has to go hunting for it.
You can do simply by making a NEW POST then posting 'reserved', or 'reserved for BTS', or 'watch here for mind blowing Behind The Scenes info", etc.
Comments and jokes and whatever else can come after those top 4. You want to keep the real-estate to yourself, so there are no distractions.
GOOD LAYOUT
We've managed to come up with an attractive layout over the past few fests.
TITLE
TAGLINE
SYNOPSIS
POSTER
Starring: Lead Actor, Supporting, Etc
CREW:
Director,
Writer,
Cinematographer,
Composer,
ETC
Check out MONSTERFEST to see some examples of good layout.
"The Devil's Toy" is a good one to emulate: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=181277
Why's this important? In MonsterFest JDS had to give a gentle reminder to make sure all relevant info was on the first page. Reviewers or interested people do not have time to slog through your whole thread.
BANNERS
Banners are often your first point of contact. There are included in your signature which can be edited under the USER CP>EDIT SIGNATURE section. Upload your banner and then add a link to your thread. Whenever you post on DVXUSER a link to your thread will be immediately available. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to find your thread.
For example
POSTERS
Try to keep your posters standard theatrical size. Not in actual dimensions, but scaled down. Minimum height to view should be 600px for better clarity. Just upload posters to your own webserver or to the DVXUser Gallery that's available for all members. Note the link for the poster and use it wisely.
From the rules about poster dimensions :
Poster must be equivalent dimensions to a standard one-sheet (27"x40"). A smaller, equivalent dimension would be 486px x 720px (same dimensions as a standard one-sheet, but much smaller). Can also be portrait (27"x40") or landscape (40"x27").
Poster must not exceed 5MB
Happy posting and good luck to ya.

Hey, share and share alike, right? No reason any film has to look less well presented than any other. It's supposed to be kind of a level playing ground here. That's why I also offer FREE poster design to anyone (provided I have the time and good source materials). There is absolutely no reason for anyone to have a bad/mediocre poster or badly thought out layout for their threads.
Other poster designers are around. Check out the collaboration threads and just make sure to give everyone credit especially when a service is volunteered.
