It's not much help, but a few months back I got a third party FD mount lens, 28-80mm Macro (but 3.5, not 2.8) on ebay for 99 cents

You should be able to find a 28mm f2.8 Canon fd on ebay for about $40 for a good one. They're all over.

Go to www.keh.com. Look for Canon Manual Fixed Focal Length lenses. I saw various 28mm 2.8 lenses from $33 to $60.

I've shot film (stills) with Olympus Zuiko Om lenses for as long as I can remember. They are very respectable lenses and are almost being given away on Ebay. I"m looking forward to start using them on a GH1 or 7D as manual primes and post some results.

That lens is almost certainly an EOS lens. It looks like they are picturing the Nikon version, but I'm quite certain that Sigma is no longer making FD lenses.

I'm assuming you have a Canon FD adapter?

Manual focus 28mm f2.8s are pretty inexpensive these days, especially on the Canon FD platform - you should easily be able to get one for $50...actually, if you've got $150, you might wait for one of the Canon 20mm f2.8s on eBay, they sometimes go for that little. You're other options would be a Canon 28mm f/2 or 24mm f/2.8 or f/2 - it's possible to get any of those for $150 if you're timing is right.

That's a big difference especially if your shooting in areas that has very little lighting.

At F/2.8 you'll get HALF the light that F/2 can provide. Or you could say that the F/2 lens lets in twice the light of the F/2.8.

from my limited experience shooting in low light f2 is the ideal number to shoot most of the time for me. I find f1.4 to be too shallow on focusing. if you can get/afford f2 go for it =)
