If this was posted already I do apologise but if it was can I get the link for it?

I am having difficulty picking one of these (I am a film student) so I want one that I can film with and perhaps sometimes snap some photos, which of these is the better option to get the nice film look? I've seen a few videos and depending on the person the quality looks really great but what are the +'s and -'s of both of these and which would anyone here chose

Depends on what you want. I've been looking into DSLRs recently as well.

Is price an issue? Because the 5d mkii is 3 times the price of the d90.

Image quality is definitely better with the 5d, but is 24p important to you as a film student, because the 5d is only capable of 30p. People who have the 5d use programs like Shake to make their footage 24p, but it is very time consuming.

The d90 was also the first of these hybrid DSLRs so it has a lot of problems. Many posters are on wait lists for the panasonic gh1.

Just depends on what you are going to use it for and how much you have to spend.

Yeah, I find it such a difficult choice, so opinions like yours really help out on making the decision. I heard about the 5D and it's 24p issue but I also heard something about a Jello effect with D90 which I am guessing it means it shakes like jello.

What is good about the GH1?

yea, i don't know if the d90 is the best choice right now.

The GH1 is more geared toward video. There is a viewfinder I believe, and it shoots 1080 24p. But there are issues with every camera.

At the end of the day, I don't think it makes any difference. The GH1 is 1500, the 5d is 3500 with the lens kit. Yes the GH1 looks more filmic, but if you see the footage from the 5d's it's beautiful since it has a bigger sensor.

More Filmic? What does that mean? People have shot video on the 5D, used twixtor to change it to 24p, and the result was considered almost inditinguishable from film by seasoned pros. The big problem with the 5D is moire, which happens A LOT - this is why many people still shoot with an EX1 and an adapter.

The Gh1 is lower quality at many levels - not quite a pro cam, the d90 is really very, very poor - VERY high jello, only 720p, bad compression (much worse than 5D)
