I am looking for an affordable Raid 5 for my Macbook Pro but couldn't find one. So far the affordable solutions I found (from Caldigit) would only work with a Mac Pro because the raid controller comes in the form of a PCI Express Card, and if the raid controller was built into the housing, the price would be north of 2000.-.
Does anyone know if someone produces a Raid 5 that I can use with my MacBook and preferably has an eSata connection that is around 800 or less (without drives).
(are there any pc express card raid controllers available?)

This might be a good option from OWC: Quad interface (USB 2.0, FW 400/800, and eSata) and configurable to Raid 0,5,10,1 and JBOD.

Caldigit is a great option, but OWC is more gentle on the wallet

thanks for the link. I definitely have to look into it. The best I could come up with so far is this one: http://www.slashgear.com/wiebetech-r...eview-0948925/
the caldigit would be nice but way too expensive. I wonder why the prices are so different...

I just bought a drobo 2nd gen with 2x1TB in it for STORAGE. It is not recommended to use it as a place to hold video and work off of the drobo, the drobo is your backup device. Save for some questionable customer service, so far so good.

I second the vote for OWC. They always have a good product at a reasonable price.

I don't think you will be sorry. Our company purchased over 70 drives in different configurations and only 1 failed, and it wasn't the drive so no data was lost.

I love my CalDigit HDOne, I know that's not what you're looking for now, but definitely had great success with it and it's a quality device.
