Does any of you have this? Ready made one is $40 but can be DIY for as little as $14.

Stabilizer, not steadycam. No gimbal involved.

I have one. It works...decently. I ended up paying a bit more than $14 getting beefier pipe. It's not my favorite DIY stabilizer...I prefer handles and shoulder type stuff. I haven't used it with GH1 much...did some tests with HVX about a year ago and it worked ok...I don't think of it as being worth the extra weight necessarily, for GH1 it might work nicely.

My friend built the steadicam from "Killer Camera Rigs That You Can Build". It's really nice, and I believe he built it for less than $100.

If you don't live and breath this stuff, you're in the wrong business.

Cheapest solution is using your collapsed tripod as a stabilizer.

    good tutorial on this

I've been using this and it's been working decently so far. Thinking of building my own though... I want rails and dolly in and side to side abilities!!

    That would be very cool

I already use my poor mans steadicam as a monopod (or tripod because I can leave it there), although it's not good for video

Adding a slider would make it perfect

I have one and it works pretty well with smaller cameras. I used it with a mini DV palm-corder.
If interested I'll sell you mine since I've moved on to bigger cameras.
