Hate to ask a stupid question, but is the star-shaped lens flare normal for the HMC150? Or is this just an example of CCD smear? I noticed it last night filming some fireworks and also the day before with some glare off of the car. I'm assuming this is normal. Thanks for the input.
Obviously this is an extreme example.
Thanks,
Rob

That looks awesome. I've gotten lucky like that on the HVX before, don't know about the HMC150.

that's normal, its a result of using a CCD over CMOS. Which is why the HVX did it as well, as it also uses CCD. I still perfer a CCDs global shutter even if this happens to bright lights.

Thanks for the input. I figured it was normal, just wanted to make sure before my return period runs out.

i think the reason it does this is so you dont just have a huge bright blob of light, its more "artsy" and more appealing than the aforementioned blob hahaha.

I think the shape of the star comes from the blades of the iris, five blades equals a five pointed star.

Light streaks caused by CCD. Yes CCD have issues as well. Not sure what corrects this but I can point my 500 at similar objects without getting this extreme effect. Barry Green is the most knowledgeable as to the cause.
