24P will be a software or hardware upgrade?

I am going to buy the 5DmarkII but I have this question:
the 24P (if it will come, in the end) will be a software or hardware upgrade?
It would be really annoying to buy a 5d and then Canon perhaps releases a 5dmarkII.1 with hardware changings supporting 24p.....

I would suggest that $300 per month for shooting the 5d is worth it even if it goes in the bin after 10 months - which it wont

Since it already shoots at a higher framerate than the wanted 24p/25p, this should be doable via an altered firmware...

Rumor is that it will be a firmware update. There's a link somewhere in the 5dmkii section. I'll see if I can find it when I'm not browsing on my phone.

I've been told it's a firmware update. Apparently they have had some quality issues and it's still being tested.

Firmware update has basically been promised from known sources who've either directly worked with the updated camera or directly know individuals who have worked with the updated camera.
For this reason, it's really become more than just a rumor, it feels more like a guarantee from these people.
I had first seen confirmation from some people on Scarletuser.
Some people suggest that it will arrive as a firmware update if(when) Nikon updates the D3 and/or D700 FX cameras to have 1080 24p. Similar to how Canon updated it with manual control soon before the GH1 shipped.
