Here is the Mark II vs the Canon A1.
Download the 720P versions.
What's funny is this looks just like all my 35mm 5298 EXR 500T stock vs HD cameras I have. The A1 looks like video while the 5D looks like 5298 ( with no grain ) tele-cined to 2K. The 5D MII is insane good. It's almost wrong........

But I'm thinking if you used some of the gamma effects within the A1 you could have prevented those blowouts. Just like what cimemode does in the HV20 (which is supposed to be preset #8 in the A1). That would make a world of difference.

the 5d looks really cinematic
i was gonna get a hmc150 or 40
but the 5d even at 30p looks like a movie, gorgeous s*%t
the panny cams look more adept at hd stuff like csi and survivor
with people pushing the hmc 150 stuff trying to make it cinematic, the magic seems missing

The knee/gamma control on the A1 or cinemode on the HV20 can't even come close to simulating the real dynamic range advantage that the 5D2 has at its core. And to be honest, I don't really think it's just perceived dynamic range but likely more to do with superior image processing on the 5D2.
I've used all of these cameras extensively and there's just no comparison...and that's not even mentioning DOF.
Too bad that guy didn't do a quick whip pan--then the A1 would've had something going for it.

Ian I know you're a fan of the GH1 bro...I know...I know, but if you put your hands on this 5d...ON THIS 5D! right here (think Kat Williams
)...you will never view footage the same. I'm almost upset that you mentioned the HV anything in the same breath as the 5d mk II. You'll need another 17k to come close to the image this thing kicks out.
