This might seem like a naive question, but, what camera gives you better image quality, DVX100B on squeeze mode or HV30?

You are comparing 2 cameras that have very different characteristics.
Better really only means what do you want to see.
The HV30 is hi-def. There's no comparison there.
I personally hate hi-def most of the time because it shows too much detail too get a smooth "artistic" look - that's what I like. (Especially peoples faces)
Come to think of it - these 2 cameras would probably almost never give you the same results in any environment or application. That's a good thing.

HEY! I just saw some sale prices for the HV30... GET BOTH and you'll have great tools.

The DVX has so much more options and it has a pretty good 16:9 mode (squeeze)! If you want HD, you can always export the video as 720 or 1080... Because the DVX has all those amazing features that the HV20/30 just doesn't have.

the HV30 is a great camera and I think it holds up great images but I like the DVX more.
plus think about it.
the HV30 is a $600 camera vs. the DVX is a $2000 camera. it seems pretty clear to me which is better...
Well this is DVXuser.com so I guess everyone says they like the DVX but in HV20.com you might get different answer

You pay the extra money for all of those professional manual controls. The dvx lets you control every aspect of the image, and actually has a focus, zoom, and iris ring.

Both very different cameras but I would say for image HV30 FTW! Matter of fact check out the HF100 as well, about 5 bills and NO MORE TAPE!
