How do I re-create the same type of lens flare on a HVX that a Russian anamorphic lens produces? In Transformers, they created the flares from scratch in post with AE. However, I was wondering if there is such a filter that exists
Russian Lens that produces flars

Almost all anamorphic lenses flare like what you are describing.
I don't think the transformers lens flares were from scratch on AE.. they shot anamorphic panavision glass. Some of them might have been produced in post or enhanced. If I'm wrong, I'd love a link which I can read up on the process of what they did.
If you want the lens flares but are not shooting anamorphic, there is a filter (expensive!) called True Blue, by Vantage. It replicates the anamorphic flare for spherical lenses.

Otherwise, post is how you are going to get it, without shooting anamorphic.
Edit: Called "Blue Vision"... oops.Last edited by Ryan Patrick O'Hara; 03-23-2009 at 07:42 PM.

Look into Knoll's Light Factory, it might be a bit cheaper.

Thanks...
You could be right about transformers. But here is a interview with Todd Vaziri.

Ah! Both right!
It seems he studied the anamorphic lens flares from the real film footage and recreated them to make the artificial anamorphic lens flares which were from the CG elements, such as shine or reflections off of the robots.
Or so that is what I take away from the article.

I just glanced at the post and at first I thought you wanted to "fake" adding a transformer into your film....
I invented the "remove echo" audio filter. And only people that boom their actors closely get to use it.
