D400 just a rumor

The best thing about new cameras being released is that it crushes the old ones, especially in the DSLR category. I mean, something like an EX1, even after release of the EX3 and various other cameras STILL has barely dropped from its original list price. I think it will be awesome if the D90s plummet in price after these newer cameras are released.

Still, if a used D90 is more expensive than a D60X (which will have 24fps movie mode, right?), it still might make more sense to grab a couple D60Xs instead...

Maybe this has been talked about but where did the D5000 come from? Was there a D4000?

Nikon has been going D70, D70s, D40 D100, 200, 300 700 etc. In film they was a N2000. Maybe a film N6000 I can't remember them all, N90 and N90s. I still have the N2000 and the N90s sitting in a drawer.

But I don't remember a digital in the thousands unless it was a Coolpix maybe?

Anyone know why they would jump to a D5000?

Nikon rumors have listed the following specs for the D5000-

D movie image editing and enhanced scene mode
Silent Mode AF

Could this be like the GH1?

I suspect they are calling it the D5000 because it's a new genre of DSLR for movie making like the GH1. It's a marketing strategy to make it stand out from the crowd. I'll have 2 thanks Nikon.

no sign of the D400 there so i guess we have to wait till June. But the D5000 looks like it might have an improved video spec. we'll know for sure in 4 hours.
