how do you play back that p2 footage?

On the Mac, FCP can play it back in the log & transfer window, or if you have Calibrated's MXF importer you can play it back in the quicktime player. Or P2CMS.

On Windows you can use the free P2 Viewer program or P2CMS, or EDIUS 5.

You can also use Edius 4.6. But of course it takes more processor power than dvcprohd - i got realtime performance with 3 steams on my 2.1 Dualcore Vaio with 2GB Ram - but AVCintra is like 15fps or so.

But the quality is really good - since I only have a 1280 screen - I cropped 1/4 of the cabs footage to 720p and it looks almost like native 720p footage from my HVX! Thats stunning!
