I am the proud owner of a new HPX-170 and for Christmas am asking my family for a tripod. I know that the tripod I really want is well over $1000 but I just can't ask my family for that now (most likely). I thought I would inquire with some senior members here on different tripods around the $500 range that would fit the needs of this camera. Just needs to be solid performance wise, not amazing. Maybe let me know what the best $1000 one out there is too so I can shoot for the stars on that one.
Bigto all those that can help. Please let me know any other "must need" accessories that I should be looking for (i'm already asking for a camera backpack and maybe a camera light). This forum rocks!

Be a little more specific if you can. Like where is a good place to find a used tripod and what I should be looking for? Thanks.

I use this one. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...em_Black_.html It works fine for what I do...mostly weddings. I have a 200a so I'm sure it'll work even better with a lighter camera.

I have the exact same setup but with the older 503. I gotta say, I have beat the living hell out of this thing and it's still holding strong. It doesn't look pretty anymore but it still works fine. I shoot a ton of skiing and I am hiking with the tripod a lot, and it's the perfect size in my opinion. If I ever need anything bigger, I just borrow.
overall, I think it's a great well rounded setup. I can't say much about the new 501 head though.

Thanks, that's a really solid suggestion and currently sits atop my list. Appreciate the feedback, I'm also looking for more advice on accessories and equipment in this thread if anyone wants to take a look.
I'm so glad I stumbled on this forum!

i've got a used one that i'd sell cheap if you like...

The little rubber bottoms fall off sometimes while I'm running around, one of them fell off while I was crossing a street in Baltimore and got run over. The 501 head is nice and smooth. It's well worth the money.

Riley, which model do you have and how much are you asking for it? I am taking this all into consideration, thanks!

What is the best tripod for under $500?
