Last night, at around 10 ish with my friend.
First time, so it was pretty interesting.
Two guys, one with a bat, threatened us and we gave him all we got. We were just taking a shortcut through a pathway.
(I gave up my bag, my phone, my friend lost his bag, wallet, coat)
Luckily, when they left, we "jogged" ahead and there were a couple cop cars, pretty intense.
We chase after them and it turns out they were busting some other guy (random).
My friend said lets go, (we were heading to a friends house) and I said no man maybe they can do a track on my phone.
So we started walking and the cops stopped us and we told them everything.
Turns out in the end, they found my friends backpack, coat, AND his wallet, everything in it.
They didn't find my bag or phone.
Could've been a lot worse, so I'm pretty fortunate.
Life lesson,
Robbie

I don't know man. Never been robbed. But I'd say stand your ground and say fight, even if it means a head kickin, which I've had a few times, and no, it doesn't hurt. Hard to do sometimes, but you might be surprised how much the other guy is BS'ing. It's your call though, else you could end up dead. Depends, I guess but if a guy has a bat, well, that means he can't fight with fists. But I understand. Happens here all too often.

and this happened in Toronto? I never got robbed although once I was close: 1978 in Boston Symphony station, mofo pulled a big knife on me right in front of the railway tracks, I jumped down and ran into the tunnel and got away....with a small cut in my buttocks....but he didnt get my half years worth of Berklee college tuition fees in cash :-) It was a lot of money so I wasnt gonna give it up too easy.

You have to know when and where to stand your ground. I've been robbed five times (haha, I have bad luck...I know) and it's been in different towns, provinces and EVEN countries. It definitely has nothing to do with where I live, which is what I initially thought.
People are stupid and on a Friday night do it for kicks I guess. More often than not, I pick to duke it out if they don't have a weapon. When they do however, I have enough of a head on my shoulders to know that material possessions aren't worth injury or death. I'm a big guy too...it just really depends on the situation and in all honesty, it was time for Robbie to get a new phone anyway - it sucked.

Terrible advice.
This isn't West-Side Story, there's no fist fights or dancing. Nothing is worth your life, you have no idea what this guy has concealed, like a knife or worse. If he's desperate enough to rob you, he's also apt to take it to the next level if pushed into a corner.
Most muggers are dopers and if they are not already high, they are coming down and not thinking about anything but a fix. If you step between him and his drugs because you think you're a Jet , then you've taken a stupid risk.
My parents are cops and I've been on hundreds of ride-alongs over my life and have seen the remnants of tough-guys that "stood their ground". It aint pretty.

Depends on the situation. Some dopers aren't just content to JUST take your stuff.
To each his own in that situation. In my case, I have the means and tools to say "no" and back it up.

I second alveraz statement. unless you now what youre doing, give it up! nothing material is worth your health. But here is a weird episode: one night in Boston on the border to Roxbury I saw a robbery from across the street: 24/7 store around 11pm, kid walks in, pulls the pistol right in front of the face of the owner. I stop and watch as the owner with a swift move grabs the gun with one hand and slaps the boy in the face with the other, so fast it was a split second. the kid bolts out of the shop and runs. I cross the street and tell the owner how I saw everything, he said:" the kid was so nervous and shaking and I am 65 years old and run this shop since decades and know my clients ".....times have changed: in the 70s there was no crack or meth freaked out fanatics, muggers were mostly heroin junkies. Today I would also advise to give in and not risk it, however big and tough you think you are.
