Hey, I joined this forum a few days ago. I am not yet a DVX owner, but hopefully the DVX-100A that I ordered though a local broadcast reseller will arrive tomarrow. It would be just in time for me to test it out over the weekend.

There is a few questions.

I have a HP 754n pavilion with a DVD burner, it have UBS but it doesn't have firewire. Which I just found out I would need in order to transfer video from camera to PC. I plan on just buying a generic firewire card, but are there any concern when buying a firewire PCI card? Like what is the minimum data transfer speed needed to transfer data flawlessly to the PC?

Also, I have Pinnacle Studio 8 and I have received a limited time offer to buy Studio 9 for $59. IT seems like a good improvement over the 8. Does anyone have any experiance using Studio 8 with videos from a DVX?

No big concerns about a firewire card, other than to make sure that it's OHCI-compliant. ADS Pyro seems to be a highly compatible and inexpensive brand.

I have been using Studio 8 with my DVX 100(s) i have two. Studio 8 is a very good program for the price and what it does. The only drawback is you can only use one track of video, there is little control over sound, especially if you want to clean the audio up, and rendering time is slow. However studio 8 is good for starting out and getting your feet wet. I have done some great stuff with Studio 8 and Studio 9 is supposed to be even better. The other problem with 8 is you have save your project often especially when you start adding in transitions it tends want to shutdown and when you go to render, well you might as well go do something else like watch a movie.

Once you upgrade to Studio 9, it is well worth the $59.00, when you are ready upgrade to pinnacle liquid or even consider vegas 4.0 +dvd. Liquid comes with WaveLab a great audio program, but has a very long learning and needs a Dual Processor computer system. Vegas however, does not require dual Processors and very easy to learn and navigate.

Had an opportunity to try out the camera last weekend. My aunt had a grand opening at her bar, so my family and I went there to support her. I brought the DVX-100A along and record almost a whole tape worth before the battery died.

It was a wild party. I got flashed by one of the women. :o When my brother was filming, another woman asked if he tapes nudity. : Of course, he said no. LOL

So anyway, I used studio 8, cut out what I didn't need, and add transition between clips. When I played it on my 52" bigscreen TV, the video was perfect. But on my smaller 27" APEX Flatscreen, there were "noises" in the dark areas of the video. I guess the picture quality of the TV is just not as good as the big screen.

Yeah, it took almost 2 hours to render a 32 minute long home video. I ordered Studio 9 already and I imagine that I would end up getting Vega 4.0 +DVD before too long.

Everyone's going to shoot me for saying this . . .

But Vegas kinda feels like a kick-ass, super-charged, anti-matter-fueled version of Studio . . . and probably moreso now that Studio 9 is adding surround sound, color correction, etc..

Of all the NLEs out there to switch to Vegas from, maybe Studio would be the smoothest transition.

HOWEVER, Vegas has no "storyboarding" mode. Only timeline.

umm... does pinnacle have 24p support.. or even better 24pA support?

Not at present, but neither did Premiere or Avid Xpress until recently . . .

From what I understand, 24p is coming soon for Edition.
