The concept of the film slightly reminded me of a film that I scored a few years back, where a homeless man discovers a strange room after going through a cardbord box, which he uses to sleep in, later finding out that the room also exists in the mind of a psychopath.

Also, interesting to read about about your working process I hear you about scoring your own films. I think it can really give you the opportunity to fully realise your vision as a filmmaker. I should try shooting a film sometime

    Definitely my favorite Edgen Film

Carrying on the tradition from Timefest, the AIM sessions have returned, a live stream of whatever may come out of our heads as we watch your films. Here are Ben Sliker and Brad Mates thoughts on "THE BOX."

spesliker (9:54:38 PM): THE BOX then
    spesliker (9:54:42 PM): rdy?
    TheBrad84 (9:54:53 PM): yes
    spesliker (9:54:56 PM): 3
    spesliker (9:54:56 PM): 2
    spesliker (9:54:57 PM): 1
    spesliker (9:54:58 PM): go
    spesliker (9:55:13 PM): CINEMASCOPE!
spesliker (9:55:54 PM): this kid is violent
spesliker (9:56:06 PM): future SERIAL KILLER
spesliker (9:56:14 PM): dont give him animals
TheBrad84 (9:56:58 PM): YOU DONT TALK ABOUT MY BOX
    TheBrad84 (9:57:01 PM): I WILL DESTROY YOU
spesliker (9:57:27 PM): he needs one of those kid leashes i see people use in the grocery store, anyone think those are a little ... inhumane?
spesliker (9:57:54 PM): i like how he's tough talking the kid
TheBrad84 (9:58:02 PM): lol with language the kid totally doesnt understand
spesliker (9:58:05 PM): HE'S NOT GOING TO UNDERSTAND COMPLEX SARCASM
TheBrad84 (9:58:30 PM): this guy doesnt do much does he
spesliker (9:58:32 PM): i think the little kid just called him a poo.
spesliker (9:58:42 PM): that's what drugs and tv will do to you brad
TheBrad84 (9:58:44 PM): HEY HE GOT UP
    TheBrad84 (9:58:46 PM): AMAZING
TheBrad84 (9:59:00 PM): i was just getting used to the first setting and then he switches it on us!!
spesliker (9:59:14 PM): justin's a brilliant son of a bitch.
    spesliker (9:59:22 PM): BUZZZZZZZZ
spesliker (10:00:10 PM): maybe if you didn't smoke pot and watch TV you wouldn't have lost your little brother douche
spesliker (10:00:20 PM): DRUGS HURT EVERYONE.
spesliker (10:00:39 PM): this guy is totally trippin balls
spesliker (10:01:27 PM): thoughts ... go
TheBrad84 (10:01:50 PM): it took a long time to get to the obvious ending
spesliker (10:02:15 PM): i didn't think it was that obvious
TheBrad84 (10:02:31 PM): really? what other conclusion did you think was gonna happen?
spesliker (10:02:35 PM): well, at least by comparison
spesliker (10:03:00 PM): there could have been dinosaurs in the box ...
spesliker (10:03:11 PM): i wouldn't have expected that.
TheBrad84 (10:03:49 PM): dont get me wrong i liked the ending, and it made a lot more sense than other films in this fest. but with the title, and the kid talking about htese adventures and the film is focused on the disbelieving brother. it seemed obvious to me that the box was special and most likely led to a parallel universe
spesliker (10:04:01 PM): the lesson of this film boys and girls?
spesliker (10:04:09 PM): DONT PLAY IN STRANGE BOX
TheBrad84 (10:04:41 PM): whether it was obvious or not (but it was) it took a long time to get there. it was very simplistic.

Justin, haven't read most of your thread, but i'm sure you've heard this already. It took a long time to get to the end of this movie. I'm sure there's a good minute in there to chop out. That being said, Awesome one-man effort and of course we loved the music. GET A CREW MAN! cheers.

Ben and Brad... AWesome review!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write about it. Yup.. that's the concensus... Shorten the middle and get to the meat and taters.

I'm in the process of re-editing and with everyone's feedback, i'll be able to hopefully create a more impactful lil' short.

Again, thank you everyone for the kind words and looking forward to the next fest!

    cheers,
    /j

    I'm very impressed.

I'm not sure if one should have an entry in order to offer a criticism, but since you are talking about a possible recut I'll mention that I wasn't able to discern what the structure of the grass-roofed dwelling was until I saw the stills.

I picked up on this from over at HV20.com and I was drawn to the high level of the music composition, before I learned that you are a composer.
