With HD monitors costing 2/3 and up as much as the camera it seems crazy to spend so much on a monitor. Opinions? Has anyone found an HDTV or maybe even a computer monitor with a HDMI connector that works well for the field?

What is it you want the monitor to do for you?

    Establish critical focus?
    Check depth of field?
    Show tonal range?
    Verify colors?
    Show accurate lighting ratios?

If you are just monitoring to check focus, composition, and basic lighting, then just use what you've got. I monitor with SD for those purposes. But if you need a calibrated monitor for accurate color and so forth, then you're in the big leagues and you're going to have to play with the big boys.

I use a Gateway HD computer monitor [1920 x 1200] which has HDMI.
I used it to "set the setting" on my camera and I have to say that it helped me better than using the camera's LCD or shooting clips and then making adjustments.
    Calibrating the monitor helped much...
I've never used a true Pro HD monitor so I don't know how much I could gain from it.

I use monitors mostly for producers and clients. I have a sony sd monitor that I can continute to use. I do like the small lightweight lcd monitors.
