I'm having issues importing footage from the hmc150 into final cut pro (version 6.0.4).

The footage is shot in 24p and imported onto a new mac pro with a ton of ram and all the upgrades installed.

When I review the footage on the HMC150 camera everything looks clean and good. No issues.

When I attempt to import it using Log and Transfer in fcp 6.0.4, two bad things happen:

    1) There are stutters that have appeared in the clips. Example: The first instance is at 1:02;02 where the footage stutters and replays 2 frames over again (at least, it appears to replay two frames again), and then less than a second later it does the same stutter again with 2 new frames. Then it plays fine until 3:06 where it does the same thing again (repeating 2 frames, 2 different times).

It's probably not adding 2 extra frames because if I cut them out the footage still doesn't play smoothly. it's missing frames at that point. It's as if final cut decided to use the previous 2 frames instead of the 2 frames that should be there.

    2) The audio sync is also slipping a little, so by the time I'm at 3:00 it is very evidently not synced. The slipping seems to be the amount that would happen if you've got a drop-frame/non-drop issue. But, I see no way to select the settings upon import except for pro res of apple intermediate.

But, if I just play and preview the footage in Log and Transfer (in fcp) it shows me that the footage has no stutter at the problem sections, and the audio is synced all the way through the clip.

Any ideas? Has anyone experienced of overcome this?

Thanks for looking at the post!

Are the timeline settings you put your clips onto match those of the camera (framerate). This might have something to do with the 23.98 vs 24. Just a quick guess, though. I've never experienced such problems myself

The problem is created before I drop it on the timeline. It's if I just preview the clips, or even if I open the raw (converted to pro res) files in quicktime. After importing the clips into fcp (through log and transfer) then they have the glitch and audio problem in them.

    sync issue

I am having the same problem. I shot at PH 720 24p, I set my FCP 6.04 setting to: prores 720 24p and i when I log and transfer the clips have some stutter and get progressively more out of sync as they play.

Another thing that I noticed was that when I look at the item properties of the clip it says the data rate is 7mb/s?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Aaron

I was about to purchase this camera, but hearing things like this makes me think that this one isn't "ready for prime time" yet. I don't know when the update for FCP with native AVCHD support is due to appear, but this makes me think that the bugs in this camera could bring a production schedule to a complete standstill.

After struggling with FCP log and transfer for a day I got toast and it works great. Except for two clips that it couldn't export. I kept getting a mac os error 1309 on them. But overall I'm thrilled with the way toast works and the footage looks great and is in sync!
