-10 pedestal! haha... no wonder the blacks had so much depth... plus you were over-exposed a bit.

Very nice man. Thanks for the numbers.

that's out of 100, so it's really not the much.

OH!!! Wow! So that's like -10 out of -50 total? So like -3... it does look like more though... I use -2 most of the time... so I wonder if I did my math wrong or if the intensity of the Master Pedestal in the 170 is different from the 200, regardless of the numbers used?

It's 100 both ways. -100 and +100. It gives you much greater control.

    lol, thanks guys...

puredrifting, thanks man, those dudes are my best buds!

GaryMM, thanks man. My knowledge isn't that deep, I'm just a dude trying to learn on a big curve, lol... I was originally a DVX guy and moved into the Canon A1 for a couple of years so being back in the Panasonic world but in HD, I have ALOT to learn.

USLatin, yep, DM_rider has it right... -10 isn't that much considering you can drill down to -100.

    Jay,
Just curious, is your setup at 7.5? Although I believe I read that the default setup is supposed to be set at 0, my HPX170 came set at 7.5. If it is that could explain the lightness of the blacks in your raw footage. Love that slo-mo water too!

What are you referring to when you ask about 7.5?

In the menu under Camera Setup you'll see Aspect Conv, and Setup. Setup can be 0 or 7.5. The quick explanation is: Setup affects your black levels, unless your shooting directly for analog broadcast you want your setup to be 0. A much better thorough explanation can be found here: http://www.adamwilt.com/DV-FAQ-tech.html#Setup
