well i start a new 1280x720 project. add the movie to timeline, then apply the upscaler, and then the rescaler filter. export with apple pro res and remains the same. the stair step remains. maybe im doing it wrong!

um, did you read the instructions for the upscaler? that's not how you use it. just apply the rescaler and that's it. works every time, just like that.

This is awesome, but I can't find Wilson's AE project any where. Can someone point me to where it is posted?

OK! After the fusion macro I've managed to make this into an After Effects project
    info: http://bedtimestoriesx.blogspot.com/...for-after.html
    or download it: http://rapidshare.com/files/41939425...FXV01.rar.html
It works great. It seems to be faster than fusion. If you have multiple processors try rendering with single or multiple processors to see which is faster. (In my config where I draw the files from the local network single process rendering is much faster)
The only quirk this method has is that you lose the top line of the original video. Same is also on the fusion method. But I discovered it a little late and I can live with it since the rest of the image is great and fixes ALL the skipped lines.
Maybe sometime I'll improve it a bit. I'm also working on a method to batch process in AFX and working to have a pixelbender filter developed (not by me, and we're not sure yet it can be done correctly)

Hey guys I have been reading this thread for a little while now trying to figure out how to do all of this and I am failing miserably.

Here is what I have done..

    -downloaded the avisynth
    -downloaded the virtualdubmod
-downloaded the the avisynth script that was tweaked by hdkhang

I have my movie clip on my desktop straight off the camera. Then I have the script on the desktop. I right clicked the movie clip and went to properties to see where it's exact location was. I copied and paste the location into the script where it said "d:\movie.avi" then i saved it and tried to bring the destep into Virtualdubmod. For some reason when i look at it in the open box of Virtualdubmod it does not say .AVS after destep. So anyways i try to load the destep in and it gives me errors.. The error states: Avisynth open failure: Layer only support RGB32 and YUY2 formats (C:\Documents and Settings\evano\desktop\destep.avs.avs, line57)

I don't know if i didn't do something or did something wrong.. Would love to get this to work so my d90 videos are worth shooting.. Thanks in advanced

    Dear Lee,
i just joined dvx user in order to be able to reach you. I'm very interested in your stair stepping removal discovery. I'd be so grateful if you'd have the kindness and capability to help me. Can i use this method (as seen in your posts in 2008) with footage i shot with a dvx100B (PAL- Progressive) and captured with Final cut on a Mac? I imported the footage into premiere pro cs4 and that's when the aliasing started. Same thing happened when i tried importing it into Final Cut. My question in brief is: will your method work for me? If not, what can i do? I thank you very much for any help you can give me.

Greetings. I am reading these posts with interest as I've been shooting video for a while with the D90. I am using Final Cut Pro X and am wondering if anyone has had any luck using one of these stair removal techniques in FCPX ??

I have tried the displacement map ("bump map" in Motion 5) but I can't seem to get sufficiently fine-grained control over this map.

Unfortunately FCPX no longer supports FXScript, so Matt's plugins won't work.

Does anyone have suggestions for the simplest implementation in FCPX?

    Thanks.
