    Just curious what people think would make a better camera..
    The Red One, Or HPX-3000 for Music Video/Indie Films type stuff. I've been seeing alot of stuff about the Reds being popular but is the panasonic still a better camera?

    Plus.. would the HPX-3000 or 500 be compatable with my HVX-200's?

    It depends on your efficiency as a camera man. The RED ONE can look great if you let it. Pick the camera that is right for you based off of composition and framing. DON'T think that you can best your surpasses as being more talented then they.

    It's all in experience and chance. Best of luck.

    I think with the HPX3000 you will be able to shoot more eng-like with a straight workflow. The RED is certainly a very good film camera with a full format sensor, but I think the workflow is not as straightforward as with the eng-type cameras (this might or might not be a problem for you, it's your decision)

    Having worked with both, HPX-3000 or the new Varicam P2 will cross over ENG and film with great success. RED is almost near impossible to do ENG and is not Designed for it.

    I would reccomend you to do extensive tests for both before you decide, they both have their advantages.

    I agree with Emre, only go for the RED if you have a filmic sort of crew (DIT and A/C downloader person at least) and the time allocated to a film shoot. If so, go for it, you will love the RED.

    If you only have one AC/DIT type of person or just yourself, the Panansonic without a doubt will be easier to use as well as quicker and way easier in post.

    Working with the Red One is like working with a film camera. I would get the Red over the 3000 but I dont do ENG type work. The workflow is improving.

    Image quality wise, the RED trumps the 3000. It's got more resolution, better color (4:2:2 Vs 4:4:4+ on the RED), and better optics to choose from.

    That said, the other people are correct. You do need at least an AC and possibly a DIT if you are shooting to CF cards. I shot a whole bunch of high end looking hospital stuff a week ago with just three of us on crew. Camera op, me as AC/DIT, and a grip. We shot to the RED drive though, so we were only downloading footage every few hours when we were switching setups.

    Post is also not as bad as many people are having you believe. Final Cut Pro with Crimson Workflow works great. Other systems would be harder, but there are plently of people posting every day on AVID/Adobe/Etc. Personally, I can jump through a few hoops to get such good image quality.
