HPX 500 edited on FCP looks choppy

    Hello-

I'm hopeful someone might have an idea on how to help me.

I'm using a Panasonic HPX500 HD camera to shoot video onto P2 cards. Then I use a firewire cable to transfer my clips through the "Transfer and Log" window on FCP.

When I put the clips on the timeline, the video is beautiful. The pans and tilts are fluid and everything looks great.

But for some reason, when I export the video via QuickTime Movie, QuickTime Conversion or Compression, the video appears choppy. You can see what the video is doing here:

I'm not sure if this is happening as a result of not finding the right codec or what. I'm using DVCPRO HD 720p60- the frame rate in which I shot the video. As I said, in FCP the video looks great on the canvas, but when it exports, not so much.

I spent hours on the phone with AppleCare yesterday and exhausted their reps ideas. I'm hoping someone else has an idea that works.

    Thanks in advance!

I looked at your upload and I think that's as good as it gets with Vimeo, or Exposure Room, etc. with FCP. You can't expect it to look as good as the original footage, at least that's my experience. Although I'd like to hear from anybody else who thinks their footage on these sites looks as good as the original (including any motion) and, if you're using FCP, what codec you're using if you're exporting w/Quick Time Conversion.

I went round and round with Apple on this. It turns out- after careful- review there was a problem with the computer. They took a clip from my camera on to another computer and made a QT movie from FCP- it looked perfect. So Apple is replacing my MacBook Pro. Thank you for the help, though. Hopefully, everything will work out when I get the new computer.

be sure to deinterlace for computer monitors
    test VBR vs. CBR
sometimes VBR drops info and creates that look.

Try a different converter all together.

I've noticed a lot of bad compression out of Quicktime. I've had random frame rates, and the like. Apple will never admit to bad software they'll just quietly update the software when they're ready to.

    Also prores.

We tried going out DVCPRO HD from Final Cut, but it just doesn't look that hot re-compressed. Prores HQ looks much better. For us, when we go out DVCPRO HD it seems banding and noise increases drastically.
