Hey all, I'm just trying to work out a music video treatment, and really want to do something cool with lighing. Specifically, I want to do something with points of light (i.e, not lighting that actually illuminates the band, but instead lights that are actually in shot, and doing something cool). It will be a standard performance video, but made more exciting with a lighting concept (I hope).
Heres a couple of examples:
COLDPLAY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iLt1U7A2-s
(Awesome LED screen thing. Obviously we dont have this kind of budget, but hey...)
IDLEWILD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpYvsyxid28
(thousands of fairylights)
Essentially, I'm asking if you had a few hundred bucks to spend on whatever kind of lights you can think of, and were good at wiring, can you think of any novel ideas?
Thanks!

Going off the second video, the first thing that pops into my head as pretty cheap and easy would be white or whatever color you prefer christmas lights.

I would second that. I will add though, tt would help to know the style of the music and perhaps what the song is about, that way the lighting can work a bit with the theme, as opposed to just "looking cool". (Lighting for black metal would be different that lighting for a country song)Going off the second video, the first thing that pops into my head as pretty cheap and easy would be white or whatever color you prefer christmas lights.
I thought this music video used lights in an interesting way... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CkW0...eature=related but I would have maybe tried it with really low wattage clear bulbs, to where you could see the glowing filament inside, instead of a fully lit, frosted bulb. Doing that could be relatively cheap. Add some faders controlling some of the dangling lights for some interesting effects...Apple Certified Pro - Final Cut Pro, Motion

Cheers guys. Yeah I think christmas lights is going to be our failsafe plan, but we'd ideally like to think of something a bit more unique...
The music is essentially melodic rock music. Think Foo Fighters, Deftones, Linkin Park. Its quite an emotional song, mid tempo.
Never seen that Atreyu vid - It loosk cool, but Ive actually seen quite a few videos with the dangling lightbulb thingy going on.
Any more ideas?

Hmm...curious. Without the aforementioned major budget, you've got a tough challenge. I would go with one of these recommendations, combined with a wierd location, or, like the Atreyu video, several locations. (It was either more than one location, or one location lit differently.) A unique location, like, I don't know, a ship at sea? That combination will make it a bit more interesting. Let us know what you go with...

It's pretty cool looking, and a good song to boot, might give you a couple ideas.
