This kind of scared me alittle when a buddy of mine tested out the AJ-SDX900 ($20,000) and the DVX100 ($3,500) and compared the two. He said the 900 was only slightly better looking than the DVX.
Anybody here knows anything about this?
I'm going to ask him for some screen grabs.

Please, don't do it. It's a kind of scary s*%t. A DVX-user who can't use his camcorder is making tests ............ don't try to
convience me.
Be glad you have a good piece of camcorder. A DVX 100A is nothing more than it is. Don't try to fool yourself, it isn't better than a $26.670,- AJ-SDX900 2/3" 3-CCD 16:9/4:3 24P/30P/60i DVCPRO Cinema Camera with CineSwitch Technology and CineGamma Software.
Learn your camcorder and use it. Stop this ridiculous competition with other camcorders. Do something useful with your time.

I concur, your buddy is either high on the crack or just didn't know how to operate the SDX900. ;D

I gotta tell you, I just completed my feature Loaded dice, and I also worked on Tom Savinis Chill Factor. they shot Chill with the SDX-900 and I used the DVX. My footage looks like perfect 16mm. But the Chill Factor footage looks Like 24p that is to sharp, It has a bit of a Video edge that looks sort of Filmic, but sort of not.
Even their DP agreed with me on it.
Go figure.

You can't tell how the original footage is from this flash-video or other stemps sized videos.

Know what though - I bet that your average person wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between the SDX and the DVX. Sure, experienced pros can definitely tell, but most viewers are fooled that DVX footage is 16mm! And the DVX footage is definitely more similar to SDX footage than to 16mm...

I don't doubt that there's a difference on a side-by-side comparison.
But I'd still say that your average viewer wouldn't be able to tell whether a given piece was shot on an SDX or DVX - only with the comparison would they REALLY be able to tell.
I'm not ragging on the SDX, it definitely IS a better camera. But I'm thinking what the average viewer would notice...Mike Donis
