So you know when you buy that DVD and open it up the DVD itself is just grey. What happened to the DVD's with cool pictures from the film and colorful? I've always wondered. Anyone tell me what has happened?

    Profit-enhancement, I bet.

Saving $.001 per disc adds up, when you are distributing millions of discs.

which ones are u getting that r grey? Actually the reason I ask is because i noticed the same thing when i joined netflix, but turns out netflix gets special non retail discs from the studio which are grey/silver (i assume to save that $0.01)

no, I think its every where just on any new disk now. Doesn't matter where you are at it's still the same dvd renting it at blockbuster or buying it from any store. So it will still be grey/silver. But I miss the colored / pictured ones now. But saving that 1 cent I guess..

i didn't think this was right, but i just went to watch a king kong doc and indeed it was silver.

I also just bought the new Braveheart DVD, popped it open, sure enough, silver disc.

Interesting note: All the TV shows I've checked are full color. Even new ones like Office and Lost. weird...

TV fans need bright colors, more than cinema fans...?

Um, I have not bought a DVD for a while when did this start? The Blu-Ray discs are multi colored.

I am looking at my new "No Country For Old Men" disc and it is in color. Although that movie came out last year, did it not? I'll have to start paying attention. It could be all, but maybe it is just some.
