    Jarred,

    as always: you rock!

Thanks for the review. I am already looking for a dealer here
in Germany for the Quickstream DV. Or I need to get hold of
one when I'm in the US next time. (Fortunately you don't have to worry about PAL or NTSC when buying disk drives...)

One question though: Concerning the FAT32 formatting of the disk. If Quickstream DV behaves like a regular firewire drive when connected to a computer, it should be possible to format the drive using NTFS. Ok, it might be possible that the drive electronics can't access the disk any more when connected to the camera to record.
Did MCE give any info on that?

Ah, finally here it is! =)

Great review Jarred, as always. It was good to hear the unit does so well in saving down the stream from the camera.

Yet another toy on the wishlist. =)

MCE made the firmware FAT32 only so it could go to pc and mac. MCE told me if I formated it to NTSF it wouldnt work anymore, so I went with it.

i am curious, if you took the tape out of the cassette, i mean physcally ripping out the media out the cassette casing, then put the empty cassette in the camera, would i be able to fool the camera to trigger the stop/start of the firewire drive. that way the tape doesnt end and i wont have to switch it, and no wear on the heads.

I assume you would get a tape error and the camera would stop... not sure if it would be enough to trigger the start on the quickstream though. Regardless, you wouldnt get timecode, so you might as well just press the record button on the quickstream.

Doesn't quikstream generate it's own timecode regardless whether recording with tape or alone?

It will encode the DVX's timecode into the AVI if you are rolling on tape... if its not rolling it generates its own.

For me though, I couldn't really care because timecode is not a priority for me anymore.

Thanks. Have you got a "users" report done on the quickstream yet. I am hoping it is a GOOD report because I have ordered the 6 hour drive last week. Hoping I get the $75 discount.
