    The ModoSteady for the HV20
    #1
    Default
I'm thinking of getting the Modosteady for my HV20. I don't want to spend
$500 on up for a glidecam, or a Merlin, so I watched some Modosteady vids
and it looks pretty good for a smaller camera like the HV20.

Anyone have one or have used one?

It's a waste of money. Not worth it.

I tried it out extensivly at IBC. It looks a little like the Merlin, and that's it. It's plastic, flexible, and practically useless as a stabilizer.

I bought it for the sake of giving it a chance.
It actually works perfect for the HV20.

Real easy to balance and it has a unlockable gimble
very close to the Merlins gimble.

Only $185 and worth it. The bottom plate opens
up to expose the removable weight plates. For the
HV20 you remove 2 plates leaving 4 inside. Blalance it
to the left a little due to the heavy right side.
And there you go. Smooth operations!

    A Merlin wanna be, yes.
    Useless? No!

This thing works for smaller cameras such as the HV20.

    The video will show you.
And I will walk up to mirrors with everything to prove what is being used.

Mikko, what camera did you use when you tried it out? James in HD, what made you go against what Mikko said and give it a chance?

Now you got me considering it...

Something about it looked like it could work. And it's made by Manfrotto. They
have quality stuff so I read more about it and decided what the hell? If I don't
like it, I'll return it. But I like it, and the way it balances the HV20. Even if I tighten
the handle to stay still, it still feels great and makes your shot more stable.

I normally would have listened, but this time I felt that after reading about it
in depth, I could see how it could work. The weight plates are removable, it
has a gimble like handle just like the Merlin, and it has more than one use.

Great for the price I think.
