Question Regarding Sony EX1 HDV Workflow
    #1

I'm getting ready to make a new camera purchase and had a question regarding the EX1 HDV workflow.

If I purchase the EX1 I would be continuing to use the HDV function for the time being since I already own an HDV camera. I know that Sony's transfer software imports the 35 Mbps XDCAM EX footage from the SxS card into your Mac as a Quicktime movie that Final Cut Pro recognizes. However, does the software also import HDV files onto the Mac as HDV .mov files that FCP can recognize or does it only import them as raw .m2t files which would require a lengthy conversion process with MPEG Streamclip to use in FCP?

    Thanks!

From what I understand the EX1 shoots BOTH XDCAM EX and HDV (referred to as HQ and SP modes).

Should it be possible using the HQ mode to transfer directly pictures - at the end of the day - via firewire from the EX1 to a HDV camcorder like the Sony HVR-A1E ?
I gone buy next month the EX1 and will not be able to get right now a bunch of SXS cards (or a new macbook) and from times to times, I'am shooting for a few days far from home. And from times to times (not always), I also have to deliver raw materials on tape at the end of the day.

    Thanks !

HQ footage can not be captured via firewire, only using SP mode (HDV).

Don't know if this helps but... When I was in the store checking out the EX1 I watched a and chatted with another customer who transfered over footage that he had shot on the display model Ex onto his Z1 that he had brought into the store. Through a firewire cable I think. Dont know whether it was HQ or SP mode though.
He seemed pretty pleasd with himself that it was possible though.

The firewire is only for SP mode (HDV).
The Z1 is HDV. This is why it would work to capture from the EX1.

Thanks Kubalsky and Stevet , I was thinking SP HDV of course and i misswrote HQ (english is not my main language), If it works like Kubasky said, it's 'll be great for me.
If I need to deliver images on the spot, I can shoot HDV with the EX1 and transfer to my small HVR-AIE.

The EX1 has a 25mbps mode, but it's not strictly actually HDV; it uses uncomrpessed audio and HDV requires compressed audio. What the EX1 outputs to its firewire port is HDV. What it records to its SxS cards is 25mbps XDCAM-EX SP mode.

True, the HDV over firewire should adhere to HDV2 standards. This means compressing the audio.
Visually, it should appear the same as SP mode.
