You know, the thing is, I was all set to do this really intertwined story with very off beat thinking and style. Now, I just want to make a really pretty and straightforward Fairy Tale type love story. I'll give this much away right now. Don't look for a dark undertone. Don't look or expect some lurking evil. Just sit back and bask in the picture and let yourself go.
I've fought to keep this simple and I hope it leaves everyone happier for having watched it.

First day after the casting call went out and there were over 50 responses. I've pared them down, but I 'm certain there will be another batch tomorrow. It's so difficult to tell anything at this time. I've worked with a couple of the respondees before. Lots of new faces and some really not so good ideas about what a headshot should be.

Good luck with day two of auditions, man

I like where you're going with your thinking on the story direction. Keep it simple, and tell a nice tight little story that can carry a deeper meaning, rather than trying to cram too much information in such a short time. That's something I really tried to focus on this time around too in developing the story.

    Good luck to you man.
    Later,
    Jason

Austin's Craigslist gets me literally 50 responses a day.

It's actually an incredibly stressful process to respond to everybody and get things scheduled.

Pre production = my greatest weakness.

I like the way this short is shaping up, although Blush sounded pretty interesting.

More fun and excitement. John and I were talking this morning and he has had some really great ideas for the beginning of the story. A direction I had not originally thought of and as hesitant as he was to tell me about it, I liked it a lot. I know, vague and vaguer still. Let's just say, maybe not everything is as wonderful as I had originally thought.
On casting calls. Someone once told me (after I had commented on the time it took to write everyone thanking them for responding if I didn't want them to read, and setting stuff up if I did) you don't have to write everyone a personal note of thanks. Most of the responders never expect to hear anything if they aren't picked. Loathe as I was to not write everyone, I have accepted this practice.
    On the simple story line.
I have watched as many of the short films as I have been able to on here and other sites. It is the simple, concise story everyone goes for. We're going to be working really hard to make the dialog in this short feel like a conversation or a fight or an admission of love. I think some rely on the picture alone to carry the story through the rough parts, but I think it's the simple shots and well thought out moves where the art of film making comes alive.
    More news as it happens.

    Good luck with your auditions.

Auditions are actually my favorite part of the whole process.

Thanks Chris, we're arranging a place to hold them. One of my friends works at a hospital and is going to see about using one of the meeting rooms. we may have to pony up and rent a banquet/ meeting room at the hotel down the street and hold an all day marathon audition. The numbers are growing as we speak on people who would like to be considered.
