What a mega talent that has left us. We'll miss you Neil.

I looked at the various music sites and Peart was rated as the top drummer over the last 40 years (following Moon's and Bonham's deaths in the late 1970's). What many don't know is that he also wrote most of Rush's lyrics.

Hah, it's mostly lipsync. The Russians don't do the live sound well.

As to the bands, Boney M was huge in Europe of the 1970's. Liz Mitchell was both a singing and a performing member. But they were all lipsync on stage. Their producer Frank Farian (real nam Frank Reuther) became infamous in the US for applying the Boney M formula to his next man-made band Milli Vanilli.

In 1978, Boney M became the first major Euro act - although its members were mostly from the Caribbean - that did a series of concerts in Moscow. The tickets weren't so much sold as apportioned between the Soviet VIP's, who were told to "sit still and not respond to the provocations". Andrei Makarevich, whose band "Машина времени" (Time Machine) was always in big trouble with the authorities was called into a local Party HQ and was given a stern lecture about being too pro-Western (or some other stuff). I response, Makarevich said to the Party poobah, "Hmm, maybe if I get to see Boney M, I'll figure out what not to do better. Do you think you can come up with a few tickets, just to give me a valuable lesson?" Lo and behold, the Party poobah actually got him a couple of tickets.

The band did not get paid for their week but the Soviets provided the crews for the related documentary.

And, of course, one song they were not allowed to perform was their biggest hit, "Rasputin". I wonder why.

Side note, the cute Soviet "journalist" at 1:00-1:10 that Bobby kisses on the cheek was a good friend of one of my recent Facebook acquaintances (sadly, she was killed in a car crash around 1983).
