“Sound of Silence” is my nominee for most depressing song ever. It just beat out “Knights in White Satin” for that title.

That era, what with the Vietnam War and social upheaval ( and LSD ) produced some very downer / depressing music. Whereas music in the 80’s tended to be more upbeat / light / superficial.
“Scarborough Fair” makes me want to slit my wrists, it’s such a downer of a melody.Big sources matter.
