You know, we've had so many people pushing for another SciFest....
but I have to say, i really like the direction these fests have taken in the last few (namely Hallows and Love) - in that the only the 'theme' of the film is what is dictated, but not the genre. I think that leaves us open for alot more different types of films.

Basically - there is nothing stopping anyone from making a Sci Fi entry for LoveFest.
And I'd rather watch 50 films tackling similar themes across different genres than 50 films with different themes within the same genre. The genre will usually lend itself to a certain look and style, where as a theme really leaves it open to the filmmaker to choose his/her own look and style. I just think we get a much more interesting crop that way.

    Just my 2 cents

    Absolutely true.

For SpyFest, I wrote a comedy, a mockumentary, and a straight-up undercover spy film. All had a spy theme, but they were all different genres. You can do anything you want!

I can't wait to get some stuff out there for LoveFest!

I cannot agree with Luis more. Let's drop the whole Genre Fest idea and go with Theme Fest instead. I so enjoyed getting to come up with a film based on a theme instead of a genre. I got so tired of the splatter films of Hallows Fest and I am really looking forward to what everyone comes up with in Love Fest. I think the voting is going to be very difficult this time around because of the broad range of styles and themes we're going to see. We've got quite the variety being done this time and I think it's going to be much better than 40 versions of the same story.
Let's continue with THEME FESTS not GENRE FESTS.

Ditto the theme vs. genre remarks. Lets do themes.
