I just got my DVX in the mail from Willoughby's in NYC. I was looking at the box and noticed a sticky patch, next to the UPC label, where some sort of label seems to have been removed. I'm suspicious that it is a refurbished model or something. On the other side of the box is a Northwest Airlines Cargo shipping label. It looks like it was part of a huge shipment from Japan to Seattle.

Does anyone know if there's a way to know if it's a refurbished model without opening the box? What does a retail box look like?

definatly isnt the original box. the original box is brown and says panasonic DVX100AP outlined by a black rectangular box.
I damn-near lost my nose. And i like it. I like breathing through it.

Well, that's frustrating. This is a photo of the box:

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions here. I didn't keep my box, but I remember it looking just like your photo. I don't see any evidence to indicate that you've got a refurb. Use your camera, enjoy, stop worrying.

filmgen, i purchased from willoughbys back in january and my box is the same as well...don't think they're selling you a refurb since they're authorized panasonic dealers which was confirmed from jan crittenden of panasonic. you can always send jan your serial# and i'm pretty sure she can confirm it... Willoughby's is an authorized reseller, so they certainly wouldn't be playing any games with you like that -- they would get in a lot of hot water if they did.

It's been 18 months since I've seen the box mine came in, but I think it looked like the one you showed a picture of.

Ah, phew. You guys rock. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I debated about buying this camera for a month and when I finally decided to buy it, I went with a NY dealer (and you know how that can be risky if you don't do enough research). I was super paranoid.

Now it's time to make more shorts!
