alright i feel like an ass, but there is just so much overwhelming information here and im not sure i even know where to start.
I just bought the HVX. First of all, do all HVX's come with a P2 card because mine didnt. If they do then it makes sense that i got mine about 1000 less than most sellers.
with that out of the way heres the problem. I got this killer new camera but
is crap without a P2.
correct me if im wrong but the ONLY way possible to use features such as
DVC50
HDV
60P
is with a P2, and a P2 only....right?
Im bummed cause i gotta drop another grand on a P2 card....
is there anyway (with a PC) that i can enable these features with a firewire, just so i can even look at them??
Also one more thing
For anyone thats in the same boat i am.....i cant stand when there is a problem but you dont even know what its called. therefore you cant find information on it.
if anyone could tell me how to fix this that would be greatly appreciated

if that image doesnt show heres the link

The telephone wires are like this the entire time, looks terrible.
I shot with DV 30p Seems like some kind of interlacing issues.
does this problem go away with advanced shooting on P2? Example being
16x9
i feel lost, so much to learn.
im sure you guys have heard these questions before i just dont know where to look.
Thanks,
nick

The HVX200 does NOT ship with a p2 card.
You cannot acquire HDV with a HVX200. For HD, it shoots DVCProHD, which is materially different than HDV which is long GOP.
With DV Rack, and some NLEs, you can capture DVCProHD footage in all its variants except pNative directly to a PC.
For the wires, you might try some cloaning or wire removal in After Effects.
Talk to the Panasonic Authorized dealer you bought the HVX200 from, and ask if you can purchase an 8 GB p2 card for less than a grand.

Ok. There is no HDV on the HVX. it's DVCPRO, DVCPRO 50 in Standard Definition, and DVCPRO HD in High definition. All of those are shot to the p2 cards only.
MiniDV is shot to MiniDV or p2 cards.
HVX's don't normally come with p2 cards, but there was a rebate some time back that gave a free card as a rebate with the purchase of an authorized HVX.
You said you bought it for a grand less than other sellers. Out of curiousity, how much did you pay and who did you get it from... If you didn't buy from an authorized dealer there is a chance that it's a grey market camera, meaning you wont' be eligible for any rebates or warranty coverage.
HVX shoots 16:9 natively.
You need to do some research... preferably before you buy the camera next time
Standard definition is standard definition. So, it won't look as good as HD.
That stairstepping looks extreme though if you did shoot progressively. Probably an issue in post rather than one with the camera.

You can also buy a Firestore FS-100 to record to, instead of a P2 card.
I highly recommend buying Barry's DVD set. I think there is info about it in the forum about the advertisers. I bought both volumes and it was only because of them I was able to head off to Africa and shoot even though I only had the camera for a very short time. It will answer so many questions for you.

ok, the firestore looks great! wish i would have known about it before i overnight ordered a 16gb p2.
One question before i think about returning the P2. I noticed it stores all kinds of formats, but does it work with 60fps?

Ahhh, some questions probably asked before....
