Seems like this is the de facto forum for the SPX800, so I have a rather urgent question as I may be bidding on one of these cams.
If equipped with the optional 1394 firewire interface, does the 800 stream ALL formats of video, including DVCPro50, or just DV? I read a comment to the latter effect on another forum, but I'm suspect of its accuracy. I couldn't find the answer to this question in official Panasonic literature.
Thanks in advance for any info.

You can download the operator's manual here:

Don't know if that'll help... I can't imagine that it wouldn't stream DVCPRO50...

Of course it does. The menu needs to be set up to send the DV50 though.

Once again, thanks to you both for your prompt replies. Jan, it's nice to get an official confirmation. I knew the other info sounded bogus, but I had to be sure.

Hi, I shoot long projects that can last 12 hrs, and I don't have the $$$ to load up new $900 16gb P2 cards.
So, I capture live video via FW at 400mb per sec using DVCpro50 ar 24PA.
I have used DV Rack using Type II although recently I use AVID Newscutter and capture right to an AVID project 24PA bin.
In the AVID you have to set the bin settings so it will strip the 24pa from the FW video.
The only problems I have had, with both AVID and DV Rack is that the flimsly 4 pin FW connector can creep out enough to cause the FW connection to open and results in an AVID and DV Rack lose of video error.
Sometimes the above happens when you least want it too !
So I have 3 P2 cards that record while I am trying to re boot the software (AVid or DV Rack). Of both the two I like AVID better althouhg both yield excellent results.
And YES, it's true DVCpro50 video with 4 audios in AVID and just 2 audio tracks in DV Rack. But in AVID that Media Creation bin setting has to be set up right ir it will yield the default DVCpro25 video insteda of DVCpro50. Remember to set the effects aperture to DVCpro50 as well.

Can you stream DVCPro50 out of SPX800?
