So looks like the new version is at IBC:

Adjoining the main Sony showcase and the Professional Services stand 9.130, Sony Creative Software will unveil its Vegas Pro 8 video and audio production suite on stand 9.131. The Vegas Pro 8 suite features a robust XDCAM HD workflow, comprehensive HDV support, import and edit support for the Sony AVCHD format and many new features to increase productivity and enhance output quality. Also being shown are DVD Architect 4.5, which is included in the Vegas Pro 8 suite, Cinescore software for instant soundtrack creation and the Sound Forge 9 audio production suite with new multi-channel recording and editing capabilities.

    Looking forward to more info...

I'm also looking forward to more info.

Hopefully it will integrate in more dual-core support.

Think we'll be able to edit m2t's without converting to Cineform now?

I doubt it. I think Sony and Cineform have some kind of deal. They'll probably just have better-integrated Cineform support.

I also really hope we can print to tape with 24f HDV footage.

We can't already do that? Hmm...I guess that explains why nothing was showing up when I tried to play it back on my hdtv via component cable. The sound was there, but there was no picture. It did print footage to the tape, but it was 24f...interesting.

I've actually never tried to be honest.

Was it HDV footage that you printed?

I just heard you couldn't so I've never tried.

I can't remember for sure right off hand what format it was...I think I converted it to Cineform avi first, and then tried to print to tape, at full 1080 resolution. Maybe I should have rendered out as an m2t first? I'd be willing to give this a try if you're interested in having the theory tested.

i really hope Sony makes some big strides with this Vegas update, bc final cut studio 2 has been catching my eye... when it comes to the fundamental stuff, to me: vegas wins; it's just those extra bells and whistles that's lacking

i'm finding myself having to come up with excuses NOT to go with a mac and final cut because i'm such a huge fan of how Vegas does everything. But i got a big project coming up and will be spending big bucks (to me) on a new system, Sony has to show me that they are worth it.

    be looking forward to IBC...
