April - Seeking Int'l DPs for a film

I'm looking for people outside of Canada/US with DVX100s to participate in a local Vancouver filmmaking contest. I want to create what I think will be the first Internationally shot film written, shot and cut in 24 hours.

The idea would be that the bulk of the film would be shot here in Vancouver by us, but a very small amount of 2nd unit footage (likely just 2 minutes total of scenic / establishing shots) will be shot in another city (Paris? Tokyo? Delhi?), or another climate (ie. tropical or snowy), possibly involving a stand-in actor, then ftp'ed to my computer for editing the same day.

I'm covering the entry fee, and I'll send a DVD of the finished project and of course, post it here for everyone to see. This is for fun, not for pay. The shoot date is April 3rd.

It doesn't matter if you have NTSC or PAL... we'll figure it out... but you have to have (or have access to) a high speed Internet connection and a computer.

I'm also open to Canadian and American contributors, but it would help if you live in a city with recognizable landmarks or unique geography (ie. NYC would be perfect).

Post here with questions or message me if you're interested. This will be my fourth time doing this particular contest and I've done some weird things, including a 9 camera format shoot on the last one (including hand processed 16mm).

I haven't gotten any responses in the Cafe section, so I'm posting here instead.

I'm really excited about this... surely there's someone out there?

    John

    Sounds cool, John ;)

I'm in Paris and ready to go. Got 1024 Kbps ADSL but have no clue as to how long it would take to upload 2 mins of rushes... Let's discuss it ! ==> monglane@wanadoo.fr

I'd be interested. Live in L.A. We have that new Walt Disney Music Center by Gehry(sp). Not too keen on "ftp'ed" You would have to walk me through that process.

Hey Anyanwu. We're going to do Paris this time. If the process works, I'm going to want to do this again in the future, so I'll keep you in mind.

Sounds like what I need. Is there a weblink for more info? I'm here in Chicago and there are plenty of landmarks to use.

Hey ebe. We're all set for this one, but I'll jot down your username in case I ever do it again.

We shoot this weekend. We'll let everyone know how it went next week.

    Just an update on this:

    It worked!

Monglane and I and two others were able to write, shoot, and completely edit a 4 minute international coproduction shot in Vancouver and Paris in 36 hours for a next to zero budget (using existing resources).

I'll post the film in the screen grabs section in a few weeks (I may tweak it after the screening next week), along with a white paper on how we did it.

    John
