I can't seem to access the search option on this site at the moment so I'll have to go ahead and ask...
I just got a new sixteen gig card, shot using it, with the camera telling me I had only a minute's footage left when I had to stop.
So why when I dump it on the computer is it less than 7G worth of space? Is this a really dumb question?![]()

A new 16 gig card...I envy you. I can't yet afford to move up to anything more than my 2 4gig cards. (but, from what I understand, they're as hard to find as hen's teeth).
things that jump to mind that you might have missed are:
1) did you format the card through the camera prior to the first use?
2) have you upgraded the firmware for your cam? I'm pretty sure a firmware upgrade is necessary before the cam will use the card correctly. (Unfortunately, I don't know the exact site, but I suspect that if you poke around on the Panasonic web site you'll find it).
Congrats...and good luck.

I'm willing to bet you have an older camera that needs its firmware upgraded. Your P2 Card should have come with instructions on how to do it. Here's a link if you are still having trouble.

All bets are off on that one Velk I'm afraid, this site prepared me for that upgrade and it's all been installed successfully.
I'm pretty sure I formatted it before the first use. I will format again and try that.

Yeah I had a silmilar problem when I got my card. After shooting for a few minutes the camera said I had only a few minutes left. I copied the files, reformatted and have not had the problem since.
