I heard that the cinematography prize in Sundance (or was it Cannes?) went to a project that used the DVX. Is there a web site I can see footage on?
Tell me more, tell me more. Did she put up a fight?

Last year it went to a film called, "November" shot by Nancy Schreiber ASC. She shot it open matte and then cropped the footage in post. I asked her when I was working with her on a film called "Loverboy" why she did not use the anamorphic, and she said that the detriments outweighed the benefits in terms of the amount of time it would take off of production. I have seen the film (on a DV dub of the HD master) and the cinematography is very impressive...especially the night exterior and interior work...
My most used on-set statement? "That seems unnecessarily dangerous."

Funny, the fact that November won best cinematography was the reason I ended up going with the DVX as opposed to the XL2. I've been dying to see the movie, and I've seen it on the future releases list on Netflix, but will it actually eventually have a commercial release?

Well the update I got from Nancy is that Sony Classics bought the film and they are looking for a Spring release.
She really did a sweet job.
Soon,
Jan
PS. There are 3 films showing at Sundance 2005, that I am aware of, that were done with the DVX.
Also there is about a minute of November on the DVX Demo DVD. Email privately for a copy.

Jan:
You can add one more to your Sundance 2005 list: "Cry for Help", which I shot with the DVX and Mini35.

"You can learn more from looking at a shadow than you can by looking at the light. You can tell the direction, the softness, the intensity, and the fill-to-key ratio by looking into the shadows... Shadow is what gives you contrast and contrast is what gives you shape and drama." W.R.
