There are $1000 cameras that don’t have that type of rolling shutter. The A6300/500 have notoriously bad RS. I’m just comparing cause you’d think it was that bad based on earlier comments.

I can directly compare my Varicam LT as far as the dual ISO goes. Personally when I shoot at native 5000 I rate it down to about 2500 where it’s clean. The LT is a bit noisy regardless of native ISO,...

So they couldn’t answer my questions directly. I tested the rolling shutter in FF mode myself, but really without being able to pause the frame it’s hard to tell. To the naked eye on the evf it...

Any questions you guys have for the Sony reps? We're getting a demo tomorrow and I'm going to ask a couple of things that affect our type of work.

    - How's the moire and aliasing in S35 mode? We'd...

I agree and think that the entire cinema line looks awful. I hate the squat, tall bodies and find them ergonomically poor.

To be honest I’m almost positive that isn’t actual FX9 footage. That channel is about as reputable as a Chinatown purse.

For the new color, the dual ISO, the fact that at 12,800 ISO you can get usable images. Full frame is great for some situations, then switch to S35 for run and gun stuff.

If you don’t need raw, the FX9 is also a better option than the 55 as well. There are small gotchas with the 55 that I can’t stand, like no physical audio pots. The 55 still shoots higher bitrates,...

So the latest is that yes, we’re going FX9 because of the weight. I keep trying to explain that by the time you hang everything you need off an FX9 to balance a 17-120, the weight difference will be...

Yeah. Now that the dust has settled there are things to like over the Amira. Mainly because technology has come so far, things like dual iso and advancements in AF are a big deal. I doubt I’ll have...

I’m in that exact situation. I asked for the Amira. My co workers shouldered it with a 17-120 and said now way. Now my dreams are over. Not that I’ll scoff at the FX9, but I love what the Amira does.

On the other hand, the new multi cable that replaces the lanc is supposed to be better for the new handle. It’s said that it makes for much smoother zooms from the rocker on the handle, but I’ve only...

I just looked it up. Apparently the 28-135 is not a true mechanical zoom like the 18-110. So when crash zooming you’re at the mercy of a relatively slow internal mechanism which lags. Also at its...

Oh, that actually sucks. At least with the 18-110 you can go manual and crash zoom if you need to. So it doesn’t have a true manual mode for zoom? That’s a huge bummer for sports.
  19. FS7: What’s the issue with the 28-135 slow zoom? I’ve...

What’s the issue with the 28-135 slow zoom? I’ve only used the 18-110, and while it’s an ok lens, it ended up being too slow (f4) for what I needed. Now with the dual iso that’s a thing of the past,...

This is a dumb question, but my only dual iso experience has been with Varicam. Say you move to 4000 iso on the FX9. Does it allow you to rate it down from that base? On my LT I rate down from 3200...

Yes, I personally don’t mind the audio. After mapping ch 1 to the scroll wheel I can tune it while it’s on my shoulder which is ideal. I agree with Mitch that as a shoulder mounted camera the LT is...

I pitched it because I own it. Unfortunately the audio was their main issue with it. They want physical wheels (also why they shot down the F55). I won’t lie though, the LT with the 17-120 isn’t far...

We have the 18-110 with our FS7s. I really like that lens, but have you ever zoomed with the rocker on those things? It’s really bad. If we shot things and never did live zooms we’d be fine, but we...

I think we are going to get the kit with the lens included. The thing about the 17-120 is that it’s one of a handful of ENG style S35 lenses that has a proper zoom servo and decent focal length. I’ve...
