Is the gap on the sides as well as the top? I'm thinking an adhesive velco (the soft sort) strip on the inside on the top side of the trays may 'seal' it better.

I never had that problem in 25 years with mirrored ENG VF's. I think it's the direct-view design of these newer viewfinders that are causing the problem.
