Perhaps at a later date you could support TCA correction in Redcine. This will allow the less wealthy users to use cheap glass without sacrificing debayer performance.

Graeme,
Have your revised the debayer algorithm as well? While we are on the topic of debayering, how sensitive is your algorithm to chromatic aberration? It doesn't take much TCA for the RGB... -

The Lanczos kernel in my resizer takes care of aliasing, but is otherwise flat in the pass band. What I don't do is simulate an OLPF by attenuating the higher frequencies in the pass band.

I prefer under-sharpened images myself, though I do try to (partially) offset the effect of the AA filter. The presence of high frequencies at low amplitude gives you the filmic look.
Do you also... -

How hard can it be if film can do it photochemically? On the other hand jpeg engines of DSLRs can't do a good job of it. Makes no sense to me.

Dead pixel correction is easy to do in RAW and does not require your camera manufacturer's cooperation. That said, it would be nice if RED has this feature in its firmware.

Pixel shift
Here's my belated entry - shift the sensor by a pixel every other frame. For stationary objects, you'd then be able to combine successive frames to get a green sample at each pixel location.
This... -

Graeme,
I understand your constraints. Perhaps we can limit our discussions to public domain algorithms, and you could advise us on selecting/tweaking published schemes.

Demosaicing algorithms
Hello Graeme,
I have been trying to improve dcraw's demosaicing algorithms, and am reading up papers to that end. One big problem with dcraw's AHD algorithm is jagged diagonal edges. Can you give...
