VOTE HERE! (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/private.php?do=newpm&u=913)

I know we've still got most of the weekend for voting, but we need to get the vote out for SpyFest. Post here with pride if you've voted or risk being shamed.

I pity the fools with 100 or more posts that don't vote! :costumed-smiley-047

I actually downloaded and watch them all on the first or second day. Voted right after. I watched one while downloading 5 others at the same time. Deleted any I didn't like than sorted through those left standing to pick my top 3.

Better than doing work.

my top two are easy(for me) but number three is murder....

Same here! I stayed up until 8:00 this morning watching the last 15 films, and had to go to bed to sleep on it a few hours. And I still can't decide. I am going to rewatch a few now and then put in my vote.

I thought this was probably the best fest we've had in terms of overall quality and sophistication. I was most impressed by the camera work and lighting this time. Many of the films had a great look. I also think the stories showed improvement this time -- a larger percentage had a solid beginning, middle and end. Congratulations to everyone who entered -- I've been proud to be in each fest I've entered, but especially proud to be a part of this one.

(I tried modifying my original post, but it wouldn't save...)

Yeah the save button for modifying posts isnt working. I have to delete and start a new one everytime now.
I still haven't voted yet. I'm so torn, the quality of all the films are so good so its coming down to story. It needs a beginning, middle and end to make it to the top this time for me.

I voted, but it was tough to pick a top three.

06-10-2007, 06:32 AM
This was really hard. Watched most of the films at least twice. Noticed some get better each time u see um. voted.

06-10-2007, 09:59 AM
After I narrowed it down to ten (not easy in itself), it was really hard to get to three. I had to get really nit-picky and then just go with my gut. Congrats to all the filmmakers in the fest. This was a hard vote. My guess is the race for the top three is going to be close.

Just voted.

I agree with most that this was a difficult fest to vote on. A lot, and I mean a lot of quality films this time.

I narrowed it down to my top 10 and watched each one over and over again. As a matter of fact, that's probably why I don't have time to post reviews. It seemed that there were fewer entries this time which made it a little easier (37 vs maybe 60 or so?).

What I find difficult is voting for 'Best Picture' as it were. I wish we could vote for best cinematography, best direction, best acting, best score, etc., because there were some stand outs in each category that didn't necessarily make my top 3.

Congratulations to everyone that took the time and effort to submit a film. You're all winners. "The reward is in the journey".

And thanks to Jarred, Barry, Barry, and Larry and the other Mods for providing a forum to make this all possible.

Just voted ... this was by far the most difficult fest to pick a TOP film as well as a top three placements! Quality is getting better & better with each fest, as all the filmmakers improve their craft ... which is great, since that's what this is all about.

I agree with RobertE that it was MUCH easier (and desireable) to have the rankings for Cinematography, Editing, Story, etc. as each film had a strength, and it would be nice to recognize those strengths, not to mention the valuable feedback it offered the filmmakers to see how they placed against their peers in each category ... though I understand that process is ancient history due to people getting upset about things, not being appreciative of the extra work, etc.

Dangit. :)

That said, I'm a little anxious to see how this new voting system works, based on the following: A film could have two votes for it at 1st place, but possibly not show up on ANYONE else's radar for a single additional vote. That would give it 10 points.

Another film could receive TWO second place votes and THREE 3rd place votes, so it showed up on 5 people's radar as a top three film, yet would still lose out to the film that only showed up on two people's radar, but felt it deserved 1st.

Meaning, more people in that situation would believe the film deserved to place in the top three, yet the minority would win simply because they felt it deserved 1st. Granted, the films that win are usually, I believe, the greater concensus, but this is a reality that could happen that just dawned on me.

So, this will be very interesting to see the results!

It'd also be cool if the Mods could give out some honorary mentions for categories, such as acting, story, editing, camera, etc. Though no prizes would be offered, it'd be great to see the additional/extra recognition.

06-10-2007, 01:19 PM
ok, my votes are in.

good luck everyone . . .

06-10-2007, 01:54 PM

Really?? There are definitely some amazing shorts in here, but there is an awful lot of just shit. As a whole, I thought the quality of all the shorts together definitely dipped down from Dramafest. Hopefully the next fest is not as narrow ('Spy' is not even a genre, it's a sub-genre) and the quality can go back up.

06-10-2007, 07:46 PM
gee I sound like an ass. I didn't mention names becaue I think everyone should be proud they finished a film and entered. I'm simply stating I felt the average of all the films noticeably dipped for me from Dramafest.

Btw, when are the winners announced?

06-10-2007, 07:48 PM
i think i may have been the first person that voted. Last Monday (6/4) at 8:24 PM dvxuser time. can anyone beat me?

06-10-2007, 07:58 PM
Everyone should be proud they made a film. A lot of work goes into a project. Many times it is one person trying to get it made. I certainly wouldn't call anyones attempt Sh#t. Congratulations to all the filmmakers and if you feel as I do, regardless of wheather you get a prize or not you have won something by being part of it.

06-10-2007, 08:11 PM
I know it's kind of old news but I agree it was difficult to pick a top three and I've definitely been thinking about my vote, going back on it. I wish I could retract it because I was like, "OH, I forgot about THAT one!" but then it ended up being 10 favorites.

Now where are those winners?!
