Hello,
I am ordering a protective filter so that this doesn't happen again, but my lens has aquired notable dust that becomes very visible when a light source directly hits the lens. I saw a previous post where someone recommended a cloth cleaner, and I have heard that liquid cleaners should be avoided at all costs. What should I look for, what should I avoid? What do you use, and where do you get it?

Thanks,
Nate

You need to get lens tissue and oil removal for the lens link provided:

First, blow the dust off with a blower or can of Dust-Off. Then, spray some lens fluid on a piece of lens tissue and gently clean the lens in a circular motion, starting from the center and working your way out.

The clear filter is a good idea to protect the lens -- same procedure to clean the filter.
