View Full Version : DVCPRO-HD Editing more comfortable ??
Compare with the hdv (mpeg2) editing which is sucking the process power.
I ask my self how is editing with the DVCPRO .
a BREEZE! what kind of machine /NLE are you using?
i use FCP on a mac and its really really smooth. so much so that im using an old 1.0ghz mac laptop (using only the slow-ass internal boot drive) in the field and it does basic a/b roll edits without missing a beat

sucks for live streaming though. I've only been able to get it to work on 1080i in Edius on my desktop..and no luck in Avid, Premiere, or on my laptops. Ugh. Very dissapointed.
Well Powermac G5 dual 1.8mhz is here the working class ,with FCP 5.0 as software

Compared to the HDV codec DVCPRO HD is incredibly easy to edit and requires much less processing power. I edit regularly on both my MacPro and Macbook Pro without any problems. Of course, that editing is done with an external raid solution as you don't want to edit on your OS drive.

Very dissapointed. You can record 720P (non-native) video in Edius as long as you set the TC mode to FREE RUN -- if you don't, you'll get a "Disk Too Slow" message and capture will stop after one second.
what exactly do you mean by "live streaming"?

I'm pretty sure he means recording straight from the DV port instead of going to P2 or a FS-100 first.
wow - thats so NOT what that term means... aditionally thats kind a peripheral function of one subjective workflow - not an overall symptom of the codec.
DVCPROHD is glorious to work with. if i can do it smoothly on a 4+ year old mac laptop from the internal drive - that should be "nuff said"

I don't even get 720p as in input option, only project settings. And I'm on 4.03. 4.5 is coming in July, hopefully that'll work better.
And I meant live capture, not live streaming - sorry.

I live capture in Avid on my dual-core laptop. Only problems occur when audio overloads, then capture stops. I'm not sure why.

I'm playing 720 24p DVCPro HD files off a WD Passport thru USB 2 on a G4 1.25GHz iBook. I can playback files flawlessly with P2 Logger and do simple straight cuts with FCPro 4.5HD. Info to chew on.

I am using DVXPro HD on a 3 year old Dell laptop with only 512 megs of ram and a 64meg video card with no problems.

Whoa. I figured my computer was no good for the codec 'cause I can't even play HD files without jerkiness.
